Tinubu To Oluremi At 66: ‘I Would Choose The Same Road That Led Me To You’

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has marked the 66th birthday of his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, with an unusually personal tribute, describing her as his “truest friend and confidante” and declaring that he would choose the same path that brought them together if given another chance at life.

In the birthday message released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, late Sunday night and dated September 21, 2026, the President moved beyond the public image of the First Lady to reflect on their long personal journey, the sacrifices they have shared and the role she has played in his life.

Tinubu recalled how his wife had remained beside him through difficult seasons, saying burdens that belonged to him often found their way onto her shoulders.

He also credited her with providing counsel, including on occasions when he may not have been ready to hear what she had to say.

“More often than not, you sense when I need counsel before I ask,” the President said, adding that there had been nights when her presence alone was enough to offer him counsel.

His tribute also revealed the private dimension of their relationship, with Tinubu describing Oluremi as someone who tells him the truth plainly and waits until they are alone before offering advice on issues that require his attention.

Beyond their marriage, the President highlighted what he described as his wife’s commitment to humanitarian causes, particularly through initiatives associated with her public life.

Oluremi Tinubu served as First Lady of Lagos State before representing Lagos Central in the Senate from 2011 to 2023. She is currently Nigeria’s First Lady.

Tinubu referenced her work through the New Era Foundation during their years in Lagos and the Renewed Hope Initiative, which has been associated with interventions involving women, children, vulnerable Nigerians and other disadvantaged groups across different parts of the country.

For Tinubu, however, his wife’s influence extends beyond public engagements. He described her as a woman whose devotion has shaped their home, saying their children and grandchildren have grown under the shelter of her prayers and values of faith and kindness.

He also pointed to her compassion across religious, ethnic and regional lines, saying she has offered support to people whose names she may never know and, in some cases, to people she has never personally met.

The President drew from both Yoruba wisdom and the Bible in expressing his appreciation, citing the Yoruba saying, “Ìyàwó rere ni adé ọkọ rẹ̀,” which means that a good wife is her husband’s crown.

Tinubu then brought the deeply personal message to its most striking point, reflecting on the years they have spent together and the decisions, sacrifices, laughter and prayers that have shaped their journey.

“If life returned me to the beginning, I would choose the same road that led me to you,” he said.

The President concluded by thanking Oluremi for the life they have built together and praying that God would grant her many more years in good health and joy.

He wished his wife a happy 66th birthday and prayed that the years ahead would bring her the same comfort and happiness she has given to him and others.
