The governorship ambition of Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli gathered fresh momentum on Monday as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate met with Baales across Ibadanland in a strategic move to deepen grassroots support ahead of the 2027 Oyo State governorship election.The high-level engagement brought together the APC standard-bearer, his deputy governorship candidate, Hon. Michael Adesoji Adedeji, and other party leaders, who held extensive discussions with the traditional rulers on the future of Oyo State, community development and the critical role of traditional institutions in governance.
The meeting also featured warm interactions between the APC delegation and the Baales, further strengthening Alli’s relationship with the grassroots custodians of Ibadanland as political activities gradually gather pace across the state.
Political observers believe the visit formed part of Alli’s wider consultation drive aimed at building broad-based support across all strata of society following his emergence as the APC governorship candidate.
Earlier on the same day, Alli had taken his campaign message to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, where he featured at a media parley tagged “A Day with BSA” at the NUJ Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan. During the interactive session, he answered wide-ranging questions from journalists on his governorship ambition, leadership philosophy and development blueprint for Oyo State.
Speaking on his vision, the senator pledged to pursue people-centred governance anchored on quality education, improved healthcare, infrastructure renewal, youth and women empowerment, agriculture, security and economic prosperity.
Responding to questions on the state of the APC, Alli disclosed that one of his immediate priorities after securing the party’s ticket was reconciling other aspirants who contested the governorship primary with him.
According to him, consultations and peace-building efforts are already producing positive results, expressing confidence that the APC would enter the 2027 election as a united and formidable political force.
“We are making progress. Reconciliation is ongoing because victory can only come through unity,” he said, assuring party members that every stakeholder would have a place in the collective project of reclaiming Oyo State.
The senator further maintained that his aspiration transcends politics, describing it as a mission to restore Oyo State’s status as the true Pace Setter through inclusive governance, transparency and accountable leadership.
Monday’s twin engagements—first with journalists and later with the Baales of Ibadanland—highlighted Alli’s strategy of combining public policy conversations with grassroots consultations as he continues to consolidate support for his 2027 governorship bid.
With reconciliation efforts gathering steam within the APC and consultations extending to traditional institutions, political watchers say the senator has begun laying a solid foundation for what is expected to be one of the most keenly contested governorship races in Oyo State’s recent history.
