Alli Backs Alao-Akala Legacy at ATM Launch, Reaffirms Grassroots Focus

Oyo State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, has thrown his weight behind efforts to preserve the legacy of the state’s former governor, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, describing his contributions to grassroots politics and development as worthy of continued celebration.

Alli made the remarks while joining APC leaders and other stakeholders at the official launch of the Alao-Akala Transformation Movement (ATM), a platform established to preserve and advance the legacy of the late former governor.

Among those at the gathering were former Deputy Governor Moses Alake, Senator Hamzat Adeseun, Senator Fatai Buhari, Hon. Dokun Bunvic, Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle and Alhaji Monsur Ejide.
According to Alli, ATM is focused on translating Alao-Akala’s values into sustainable initiatives that can positively impact communities across Oyo State.

He said the movement’s mission centres on sustainable humanitarian services, leadership development, education, healthcare and youth empowerment.

These objectives, he noted, would be driven by integrity, service, compassion and grassroots development.

Alli described Alao-Akala’s legacy as one that remains deeply connected to the people, particularly through grassroots politics and community-oriented leadership.

He added that the launch provided an opportunity for political leaders and stakeholders to honour a legacy that continues to inspire efforts aimed at improving the lives of the people.
“It was an honour to stand with this gathering of leaders in celebrating a legacy that has shaped grassroots politics in Oyo State, and to reaffirm that the same values driving ATM will guide the work ahead,” Alli said.

His participation in the event also signals his continued emphasis on grassroots engagement as the 2027 Oyo State governorship election draws closer.

Alao-Akala, who served as Oyo State governor between 2007 and 2011, remained an influential figure in the state’s political landscape until his death in 2022.
ATM’s emergence is expected to provide another platform for sustaining aspects of his political and humanitarian ideals, while encouraging a new generation of leaders to deepen community-focused development.

For Alli, the task ahead is clear: preserve worthy legacies, strengthen grassroots structures and place service to the people at the centre of political leadership.
