A 41-year-old woman, Dorothy Onyekasi from Enugu State and mother of three, was arrested by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) after she was allegedly caught with 1.720kg of cocaine at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.
Onyekasi was arrested on Sunday, April 17, 2016, following her arrival from Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
According to reports, she allegedly attempted to conceal the substance by pretending to be pregnant.
Her supposed pregnancy was reportedly discovered to be 86 wraps of cocaine, which had been carefully strapped around her stomach in a waist bag.
The seized substance was said to have an estimated street value of N20.6 million.
Onyekasi reportedly admitted her involvement, saying she had met a man in Dubai who offered her money to transport the drugs to Nigeria.
“It is all my fault,” she was quoted as saying.
“When I was preparing to return, I met a man in Dubai who gave me the drug and promised to give me enough money to expand my business.
“He also told me that when I get to Nigeria, he would call his partner to collect the drug and give me my money.
“If only I was contented with profit from the sales of my goods, I wouldn’t have been in this problem.”
