Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf signed the medical marijuana bill into law on Sunday, April 17, 2016, making Pennsylvania the 24th U.S. state to legalise marijuana for medical purposes at the time.
The legislation followed a push by Governor Wolf for lawmakers in both the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and Senate to approve the measure.
Speaking after signing the bill, Wolf said he was proud to enact legislation that would provide what he described as long-overdue medical relief to patients and families who could benefit from medical marijuana.
The law marked a significant development in Pennsylvania’s approach to the treatment of certain medical conditions and placed the state among a growing number of U.S. jurisdictions adopting medical marijuana programmes.
