Workers of the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) on Wednesday protested at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja, calling for the removal of its Director-General, Folorunsho Coker.
The workers accused the management of poor welfare, alleged high-handedness and what they described as an unfavourable working environment.
They also raised concerns about the creation of a project unit which they claimed was outside the established structure of the corporation, alleging that the arrangement could expose the agency to financial irregularities.
The protesting workers displayed placards bearing various messages, including calls for improved staff welfare, better leadership and greater transparency in the management of the corporation.
They also alleged that the Director-General had failed to adequately engage members of staff since assuming office.
The management of the corporation, however, promised to respond appropriately to the issues raised by the workers.
Coker, a former Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, was appointed Director-General of the NTDC by the Federal Government in 2017.
