Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has appealed to Nigerians to turn out in large numbers and exercise their civic responsibility in Saturday’s rescheduled presidential and National Assembly elections.
Atiku made the appeal in a live broadcast shared on his social media platforms, urging voters to see the election as an opportunity to determine the direction of the country.
“My message to you is simple, please come out and vote, as this election is about your future and the future of our great nation,” the former Vice President said.
According to him, every Nigerian has an equal stake in the electoral process, regardless of social or political status, and should therefore make the effort to participate.
“As you know, this Saturday we have the Presidential and National Assembly elections.
“The reason we have elections is to allow us to have our voices heard on how we have been governed for the last four years and who will govern us for the next four years,” Atiku said.
Reflecting on the 2015 general election, the PDP candidate recalled how Nigerians used their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to vote out an incumbent government, describing the development as a demonstration of the power of democracy.
“On March 28, 2015, we, the people of Nigeria, went to the polling units only with our PVCs, yet we were able to remove an incumbent President from office.
“That made me a very proud Nigerian and a very strong democrat,” he added.
Atiku said Nigerians would once again have the opportunity to determine who occupies the presidential seat through their votes.
He urged citizens to participate peacefully, stressing that the decision on who to support remains an individual choice.
“This Saturday, Nigerians will have another opportunity to vote for the President of their choice, and that can only be done through the PVCs.
“I will be voting with mine on Saturday, and I call on you all to please join me, irrespective of who you will be voting for.
“God bless you, and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Atiku said.
