The Ibadan Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, arraigned four suspected internet fraudsters before Justice P.I. Ajoku of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The suspects — Adebimpe Babajide Quadri, Olajide Timileyin, Olubayo Oluwaseyi and Afolabi Wasiu — were brought before the court separately to face charges filed against them by the anti-graft agency.

Adebimpe was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on alleged intent to defraud and obtaining by false pretence.

Olajide, on his part, faced a three-count charge involving alleged intent to defraud, obtaining by false pretence and possession of purportedly fake documents.

Olubayo, also known as Rachel Micah, was arraigned on a seven-count charge, while Afolabi faced an eight-count charge.

One of the charges against Olubayo alleged that he knowingly transmitted pornographic and indecent images through a computer system and network to another individual in January 2019.

The alleged offence was said to contravene Section 24(1)(a) and be punishable under Section 24(1) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act, 2015.

All four defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.

Following their pleas, the court fixed different dates for the hearing of their respective bail applications and commencement of trial.

Olajide and Olubayo are scheduled to return to court on March 19, 2019, for the hearing of their bail applications, while their trial is expected to commence on May 7.

Adebimpe’s case was adjourned until April 15, 2019, for the hearing of his bail application and further proceedings.

For Afolabi, the matter was adjourned until March 20, 2019.

The court ordered that the four defendants remain in custody pending the determination of their respective applications and the next adjourned dates.
