Makinde Hails Coalition’s Adoption, Says It Is A Milestone Achievement

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, congratulates the people of the state following his adoption by a coalition of political parties ahead of the governorship election.

Makinde describes the development as a “milestone achievement”, saying the decision by the coalition demonstrates political maturity and broad-based support for his candidacy.

A statement from his campaign office, signed by Prince Dotun Oyelade, says the leaders of the parties involved demonstrate what it describes as “unsurpassed broadmindedness and political maturity” by agreeing to adopt Makinde as their candidate.

The statement lists Osi Olubadan, High Chief Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja; Senator Femi Lanlehin; Barrister Sarafadeen Alli; and Chief Bolaji Ayorinde, SAN, among the political leaders involved in the process.

According to the statement, the coalition’s decision creates a stronger platform for the PDP ahead of the election and increases the party’s chances of securing victory with the support of other political leaders in the state.

The campaign office also directs strong criticism at the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party of attempting to use violence and alleged vote manipulation to influence the election.

“The milestone achievement has now paved the way for the PDP to coast home to victory with the support of other patriotic leaders,” the statement says.

It further alleges that the APC will be “overwhelmed and drowned” in any attempt to influence the election through violence or manipulation of votes.

The statement also contains a warning directed at the APC and its supporters, using strong political language to emphasise what the campaign describes as the growing opposition to the party in Oyo State.

“If the APC wishes, it can arrange a camp bed in Ibadan for their Lagos leader, our people will banish them out of our territory,” the statement says.

Makinde’s campaign office also declares that Oyo State is no longer under what it describes as the political control of the APC.

“Seyi Makinde advised the APC to look for another business centre. Oyo State is out of your stranglehold and out of bounds,” the statement says.

The campaign office presents the coalition’s adoption of Makinde as a significant development in the political contest, while calling on supporters and other political leaders to unite ahead of the election.
