Former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun Central, Ibikunle Amosun, has expressed confidence that President Muhammadu Buhari will leave Nigeria in a better position at the end of his tenure in 2023.
Amosun also described leadership as one of the major challenges confronting the country, while commending Buhari for what he described as fairness and commitment to national development.
The former governor spoke at the 2021 Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council event in Ibadan, where he compared the performance of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration with the 16 years the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) spent in power at the federal level.
Amosun argued that Nigeria had made progress under Buhari’s administration, particularly in the areas of agriculture and infrastructure.
He maintained that some of the challenges confronting the country, including insecurity, could be traced to problems that had accumulated over previous administrations.
The former governor therefore called on Nigerians to support the Buhari administration as it continued to address the challenges facing the country.
“Agriculture and infrastructure have been the major focus of the Buhari administration. The farmers have obtained more friendly loan packages than before,” he said.
Amosun also highlighted developments in the railway sector, noting that the administration had embarked on major railway projects across the country.
According to him, the Buhari administration had initiated, completed and delivered a number of rail projects, with the developments also creating employment opportunities.
He further expressed confidence that Buhari would leave office with significant achievements to his credit.
“President Muhammadu Buhari has done so much good for the nation and when he leaves office in 2023, he would have done more good for the nation than any other government before him,” Amosun said.
Amosun Receives NUJ Award
Amosun, who was represented at the event by Barrister Taiwo Adeoluwa, was also honoured by the NUJ Oyo State Council.
The former governor received an Award of Excellence as the Nation’s Bridge Builder and Icon of Progressive Bloc.
The award, according to the organisers, recognised what they described as Amosun’s progressive approach to governance, administrative policies and efforts towards strengthening cooperation among members of the APC across the country.
The award was presented by Dr. (Mrs.) Florence Ajimobi, wife of the late former Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi.
Among members of Amosun’s team who attended the event were Professor Adeolu Akande, Chairman of the occasion and Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Alhaji Bola Adeyemi, Chief Wole Elegbede, Hon. Raheem Ajayi Baglo and Dr. Oye, among others.
The event brought together journalists, political leaders and other stakeholders, with discussions focusing on governance, leadership and national development.
