The global Omilere Alaragbo community has unanimously declared Her Royal Majesty, Olori Ashley Afolasade Ogunwusi, as the Yeye Oba to Yeye Alaragbo Oodua, a recognition described as a significant milestone in the promotion of Yoruba cultural heritage and the preservation of traditional values.
The declaration was made by Omo’ba Yeye Abiye Osunbunmi Abike Ifasemilore, the Yeye Alaragbo Oodua and Founder of the Omilere Alaragbo Global Foundation as well as the Alaragbo International Cultural Festival Initiative, in a press statement personally signed on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.
According to the statement, which was made available to journalists through the organisation’s media aide, Dare Adeniran, the honour reflects the collective decision of Alaragbo adherents and stakeholders across Nigeria and the diaspora, who acknowledged Olori Ashley’s unwavering commitment to promoting Yoruba culture, preserving tradition, advancing humanitarian service and fostering community development.
Yeye Alaragbo Oodua noted that Olori Ashley has continued to distinguish herself through her passion for cultural preservation, women empowerment and initiatives that positively impact society, making her a worthy recipient of the revered title.
She explained that the declaration is not merely ceremonial but a recognition of Olori Ashley’s growing influence as a cultural ambassador whose activities resonate with the ideals of Alaragbo and the enduring values of the Yoruba people.
She added that the title also symbolises a deeper commitment to strengthening cultural identity, fostering unity among Yoruba sons and daughters worldwide and inspiring younger generations to embrace their heritage.
The statement further expressed confidence that Olori Ashley would use the honour to champion initiatives that promote indigenous traditions, encourage cultural education and support programmes that enhance the social and economic well-being of communities.
Yeye Alaragbo Oodua congratulated Olori Ashley on the historic recognition and prayed that Olodumare grants her wisdom, strength and long life to continue serving humanity and advancing the cause of Yoruba culture.
She also called on members of the Alaragbo family, cultural enthusiasts and traditional institutions across the globe to rally behind the new Yeye Oba, stressing that collective efforts remain essential for preserving the rich customs, spiritual heritage and cultural identity handed down by the forebears.
