Oyo South Traders Endorse Oseni, Tinubu, Hail N90m Business Support

Market men and women across Oyo South Senatorial District have thrown their weight behind the senatorial ambition of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the district, Engr. Aderemi Oseni, while also pledging support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing the lawmaker’s grassroots development initiatives and people-oriented representation.

The endorsement was made on Monday during an interactive engagement between Oseni and market stakeholders from the nine local government areas that make up the senatorial district in Ibadan.

The event also featured the distribution of N90 million in business support to traders across the district, with each of the nine local government areas receiving N10 million to strengthen petty trading, expand existing businesses and stimulate grassroots economic activities.

According to a statement issued by Oseni’s media aide, Idowu Ayodele, the financial intervention forms part of the lawmaker’s efforts to improve livelihoods and promote economic inclusion among small-scale entrepreneurs.

Oseni, who represents Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and serves as Chairman of the House Committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), said empowering market operators remains a key component of his development agenda.

Describing markets as the heartbeat of local communities, the lawmaker commended traders for their resilience in sustaining families and driving local economies despite prevailing economic challenges.

“This intervention is aimed at strengthening their businesses, easing economic pressure and encouraging enterprise at the grassroots,” he said.

He stressed that effective leadership should produce tangible benefits for the people, assuring traders that his representation would continue to prioritise practical interventions capable of improving lives.

“Leadership must translate into visible impact. I remain committed to initiatives that support small businesses, create opportunities for growth and complement the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Oseni stated.

The APC chieftain also canvassed support for President Tinubu’s second-term bid, arguing that greater alignment between the federal, state, senatorial and local government leadership would fast-track development across Oyo State.

Highlighting some of the achievements of the Tinubu administration, Oseni pointed to initiatives such as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), efforts to reduce industrial actions in tertiary institutions, tuition-free technical colleges, the construction and rehabilitation of major highways, agricultural support programmes, subsidies for cancer treatment, and the fiscal gains accruing to states and local governments following the removal of fuel subsidy.

He urged traders to mobilise support for APC candidates in the next general elections, expressing confidence that another Tinubu administration would further improve the welfare of Nigerians.

Speaking on behalf of the traders, the Coordinator of Market Men and Women in Oyo South Senatorial District and Babaloja of Omi-Adio and Ido Local Government, Chief Odedele Waheed, described the large turnout as a reflection of the confidence reposed in Oseni’s leadership.

He commended the lawmaker for his sustained commitment to grassroots development, noting that the N90 million support package would significantly boost commercial activities and strengthen businesses across the district.

Odedele also appreciated the leadership of market men and women in Oyo State for approving the engagement, saying the meeting provided an opportunity for traders to interact directly with Oseni, express their concerns and gain a better understanding of his vision for Oyo South Senatorial District.

In a show of solidarity, the traders unanimously pledged to mobilise support across markets in the district in favour of Oseni’s senatorial ambition and President Tinubu’s re-election in the forthcoming general elections.

Among the market leaders present at the engagement were the Babaloja of Ibadan North East, Ibrahim Balogun; Babaloja of Ibadan South West, Rafiu Iyo; Babaloja of Ibadan North West, Alhaji Tajudeen Hammed; Alhaji Abdulraman Salawudeen; the Asiwaju Oloja of Ibarapa Zone, Chief Okanlawon John Adebisi; the Babaloja of Ibadan North, Chief Adewole Basirat; and the Iyaloja of Ibarapa Central, Chief Ige Fausat, among other prominent market stakeholders.
