Sharafadeen Alli Unveils Oyo Development Vision, Pledges Quality Infrastructure, Transparency and Citizen Accountability

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, has outlined his vision for the state’s development, promising to prioritise quality infrastructure, transparent governance, accountability and active citizen participation if elected governor.

These action plans were clearly established in a press statement he personally signed and released to the media on Thursday.

In the statement titled “My Oyo Vision: Quality Infrastructure, Transparent Leadership, Accountability and Active Citizen Oversight,” Alli described infrastructure as the foundation of sustainable development, stressing that roads, schools, hospitals, water facilities and other public assets should serve as lasting investments that improve the quality of life, stimulate economic growth, create employment opportunities and strengthen social welfare.

According to the APC governorship candidate, infrastructure development should not be measured by the number of projects commissioned but by their quality, durability, safety and long-term economic impact.

He maintained that every kobo of public funds must deliver measurable value to taxpayers, adding that the people of Oyo State deserve projects executed to the highest standards of engineering excellence, professionalism, transparency and accountability.

Alli also underscored the importance of citizen participation in governance, noting that public involvement should extend beyond attending project commissioning ceremonies.

He urged residents to actively demand transparency by ensuring projects are executed according to approved specifications, completed within budget and capable of delivering lasting benefits.

The governorship hopeful further advocated stronger collaboration between government and community stakeholders, including traditional leaders, professional bodies, transport unions, market associations, youth groups and civil society organisations, to monitor public projects and promote accountability.

He said such partnerships would improve project delivery, safeguard public resources and ensure government remains responsive to the needs and aspirations of the people.

Speaking on contract execution, Senator Alli insisted that contractors responsible for substandard projects must be held accountable and compelled to rectify defects at their own expenses.

He equally stressed that public officials supervising projects must be transparent and answerable for ensuring strict compliance with contractual obligations and quality standards.

Highlighting his administration’s priorities, Alli pledged to strengthen public procurement processes, institutionalise independent quality assurance mechanisms and strategically align infrastructure investments with the long-term development needs of communities across Oyo State.

He added that his government would prioritise projects capable of attracting investment, promoting trade, improving road connectivity, strengthening security and expanding access to quality education, healthcare and other essential social services.

Calling on residents to remain vigilant and actively engaged in governance, Alli said sustainable development can only be achieved through responsible leadership, transparent governance and active citizenship.

He expressed confidence that, through prudent management of public resources and collective commitment to accountability, Oyo State would witness enduring infrastructure development and inclusive economic growth that would benefit both present and future generations.
