Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have intensified their offensive against terrorist elements in Plateau State, recording a series of successful operations that led to the neutralisation of several suspects, the arrest of an alleged gun runner and the recovery of locally fabricated rifles.
The operations, conducted across different parts of the Joint Operations Area between June 26 and July 2, 2026, formed part of the military’s sustained campaign to dismantle terrorist enclaves and restore lasting peace in affected communities.
The first operation took place in the early hours of June 26 at the Gero Highground in Jos South Local Government Area following intelligence reports of suspicious terrorist activities in the area. As troops advanced, they came under heavy gunfire from suspected terrorists who reportedly used livestock as cover.
Reinforcements were immediately deployed, forcing the attackers to retreat. The troops pursued the fleeing suspects, neutralising some during the operation while others escaped. Security forces thereafter carried out extensive combing of the area to track down fleeing terrorists and destroy their hideouts.
In a related operation later that day, troops stationed at Maijanki intercepted a motorcycle carrying two passengers travelling from Kuba District in Bokkos Local Government Area towards Barkin Ladi.

On sighting soldiers at a checkpoint, the passengers reportedly abandoned a bag and fled into nearby bushes.
A search of the bag led to the recovery of three locally fabricated rifles, while the motorcycle rider was arrested for questioning.
Preliminary findings indicated that the rider claimed he was unaware of the passengers’ mission. The recovered weapons, motorcycle and suspect remain in military custody as investigations continue.
According to a statement signed by Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, troops also carried out another successful ambush on June 30 after receiving intelligence on the movement of suspected terrorists around the Rafin Bauna/Gero mountains in Jos South Local Government Area.
The military said five suspected terrorists were neutralised during the encounter, while others fled after abandoning their mission.
According to a statement signed by Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, troops also carried out another successful ambush on June 30 after receiving intelligence on the movement of suspected terrorists around the Rafin Bauna/Gero mountains in Jos South Local Government Area.
The military said five suspected terrorists were neutralised during the encounter, while others fled after abandoning their mission.
Field assessments, supported by information from community members, indicated that some of those killed had been on the command’s wanted list for allegedly masterminding several deadly attacks in Jos South and Bassa Local Government Areas.
In another incident on July 2, troops providing security at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, repelled an attack after suspected terrorists reportedly breached the institution’s perimeter under the cover of darkness.
The soldiers swiftly engaged the attackers, killing one of the suspects while others escaped. The military disclosed that the deceased suspect’s body had been handed over to the police, while recovered arms and ammunition remain in military custody. Troops have since intensified patrols around the area to prevent further attacks.
Operation ENDURING PEACE reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on terrorist groups across its operational area, stressing that ongoing operations are aimed at denying criminal elements freedom of movement while ensuring the protection of lives, property and the restoration of lasting peace in Plateau State.
