Ibadan-born businessman and philanthropist, Mogaji Wole Arisekola, has mourned the passing of Major General Ezra Jahadi Jakko (rtd.), describing the late military officer as a gentle, loving, humble and caring man.
Arisekola, the publisher of The Street Journal and Mogaji of Ajenigieye Compound, Ibadan, expressed his grief in a heartfelt tribute following the death of the retired Nigerian Army Major General, whom he described as a brother and a man whose contributions extended beyond his military career.
Major General Jakko was a former Chief of Defence Finance and Budget and remained active in enterprise and community development after his retirement from the Nigerian Army. He was also the founder of Golden Finger Farms and Ranches Limited.
Reflecting on their most recent interaction, Arisekola said the sudden death came as a rude shock, particularly because he had spoken with the retired general earlier in the week.
“My brother, we chatted just this week, and you promised to see me when you returned to Nigeria. So, what happened between yesterday and today?” Arisekola wrote in his tribute.
He described Jakko as not only a distinguished military officer but also a servant of God and a community builder, stressing the personal qualities that endeared him to those who knew him.
“General Jakko, may your gentle soul rest in peace. You were a gentle, loving, humble and caring man—a former Chief of Army Budget and Finance, a servant of God and a community builder,” he said.
For Arisekola, the suddenness of the loss made the news particularly difficult to accept, coming only days after their conversation and plans to reconnect upon Jakko’s return to Nigeria.
While commiserating with the family, Arisekola prayed that God would grant them the strength and comfort needed to cope with the loss of the retired senior officer.
“Your death came as a rude shock this early morning. May the Lord comfort your family,” he said.
He ended his tribute with a poignant farewell to the deceased, writing: “Adieu, my brother.”
