Chief (Mrs.) Tawa Sharafadeen Alli, wife of Oyo State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, is among the personalities in focus at the forthcoming Polio Ambassadors Awards and Fundraising event organised by the Rotary Club of Ibadan.Scheduled for Thursday, October 22, 2026, the event will bring together individuals recognised for their courage, dedication and contributions to the fight against polio, a preventable disease that continues to require sustained public health awareness, immunisation efforts and community support.
The programme, billed for 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., will hold at the Rotary Club House, Quarter 570, Oyebode Crescent, Simon Adebo Avenue, Iyaganku GRA, Ibadan.
Tawa Alli’s inclusion in the event’s focus comes against the backdrop of her public engagements in Oyo State, particularly her involvement in community outreach, women’s empowerment and initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of vulnerable groups.
As a prominent figure associated with the political and social activities of her husband, she has participated in engagements centred on community development, with women and young people featuring prominently in her public-facing activities.
The Rotary Club of Ibadan’s awards and fundraising initiative is designed to recognise individuals whose commitment and contributions support the campaign against polio, while encouraging further participation in efforts to protect children and communities from the disease.
Polio is a highly infectious viral disease that can cause permanent paralysis, particularly in children. Although vaccination has significantly reduced its global spread, continued immunisation, surveillance and public awareness remain essential to preventing transmission and protecting children from lifelong disability.
Rotary International has played a longstanding role in the global fight against polio through its involvement in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, supporting immunisation campaigns, resource mobilisation and advocacy in partnership with governments and international health organisations.
Through programmes of this nature, Rotary clubs mobilise individuals, organisations and community leaders to sustain attention on polio eradication and support the resources required to reach children with life-saving vaccines.
Other personalities listed among the Polio Ambassadors awardees include Rotarian Musa Adebayo, Rotarian Ojo Jimoh, Past Assistant Governor (PAG) Yemi Olawale, PAG Aiyemidun, Adejumoke Ikupolati, Rotarian Monsurat Abiola Sanda, Hon. Kehinde Fijabi and Dr. Idowu Olowokere.
Their recognition is expected to underscore the importance of collective responsibility, sustained advocacy and community participation in the drive to eradicate polio.
Beyond celebrating the awardees, the fundraising component of the programme is expected to draw attention to the continuing need for support for polio-related interventions, particularly immunisation and public education.
With community leaders, professionals and other stakeholders expected to participate, the event will provide an opportunity to celebrate service while reinforcing the message that the fight against polio requires commitment from individuals and institutions alike.
For Rotary and its partners, the ultimate objective remains clear: to sustain public engagement and support until every child is protected against the threat of polio.
