Pastor Dolapo Adelakun, wife of renowned Ibadan-based cleric, Bishop Taiwo Adelakun, has issued a strong warning to female choristers against attending private appointments or holding church-related rehearsals in the apartments of choir directors and music coordinators. In a message shared on her social media platform, Pastor Dolapo cautioned young female singers against being deceived into attending meetings in private residences under the guise of choir rehearsals or other church activities.
She advised choristers to insist that all official church appointments and rehearsals take place within church premises, stressing that a choir director’s apartment should never be regarded as an alternative venue for church activities.
“Dear gullible female chorister, the choir director’s apartment is not for rehearsals. Go and keep every church appointment in Church and not the choir master’s apartment,” she warned.
Taking her message further, the cleric urged female choristers to report any choir director or music coordinator who invites them to his private apartment for official church engagements to the appropriate church authorities.
“Next time he calls for an appointment in his apartment, report to the leadership,” she added.
She also called on church overseers and other spiritual leaders to pay closer attention to the conduct of those entrusted with responsibilities in their music departments, urging them to remain vigilant and establish safeguards for the protection of young female members.
Pastor Dolapo, who is married to Bishop Taiwo Victor Adelakun, the Presiding Bishop of Victory International Church, Ibadan, is actively involved in Christian ministry and women’s mentoring.
Through her ministerial and mentoring engagements, she has been associated with the development, guidance and spiritual growth of younger women, including those serving in church leadership and ministry assignments.
Her warning brings renewed attention to the importance of appropriate boundaries, accountability and safeguarding within religious organisations, particularly in departments where young people work closely with church leaders.
Choir directors and other church officials occupy positions of trust and are expected to discharge their responsibilities with integrity and respect for the people under their supervision.
While rehearsals, counselling sessions and ministry meetings are important aspects of church life, such activities require transparent arrangements, appropriate venues and accountability to established church leadership.
Pastor Dolapo’s message serves as a reminder that spiritual authority must never be used to create uncomfortable or potentially compromising situations for members, especially young women who look up to church leaders for guidance and protection.
