Veteran Nollywood actress, Sola Sobowale, has added another remarkable chapter to her illustrious career with the official unveiling of Joseph & Esther Homes, a residential care facility for senior citizens, in Akobo, Ibadan, Oyo State. The facility, inaugurated by Governor Seyi Makinde on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, represents a significant investment in elderly care and a bold attempt by the celebrated actress to translate her passion for humanity into a lasting social impact beyond the entertainment industry.
The high-profile ceremony attracted an impressive gathering of political leaders, government functionaries, entertainment personalities, business figures and other distinguished guests who joined the actress in celebrating the milestone.
Among the notable personalities at the occasion were Governor Makinde, veteran actor Adebayo Salami, popularly known as Oga Bello, award-winning filmmaker Kunle Afolayan, actors Femi Adebayo and Ibrahim Chatta, former Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Steve Ayorinde, and popular comedian Gbenga Adeyinka.
Several members of the Oyo State Government delegation also graced the occasion, including Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde; Chief of Staff, Akinwale Akinwole; and other top government officials.
Beyond the glamour and star-studded atmosphere, however, the unveiling of Joseph & Esther Homes carried a deeper message about the importance of providing older people with dignity, companionship, professional attention and a comfortable environment in their later years.
Located in the Akobo area of Ibadan, the facility is designed to provide residential accommodation, personalised support and professional assistance for elderly people who require varying levels of care.
Operating under the inspiring philosophy, “Live Well, Age Well, Thrive Together,” the home seeks to create an environment where residents can maintain their independence, enjoy meaningful social connections and receive assistance with their daily needs.
Its approach also recognises the challenges faced by families whose work commitments, geographical distance or other responsibilities make round-the-clock care for ageing parents difficult.
Rather than replace the traditional family support system, Joseph & Esther Homes seeks to strengthen it through professional care, a safe residential environment and regular communication that keeps relatives involved in the lives of their loved ones.
The establishment of the facility is particularly significant in a society where elderly care has traditionally remained largely within the responsibility of immediate and extended family members, despite the increasing pressures of modern living.
A Dream Rooted in Personal Experience
For Sobowale, the project is more than another business investment. It is a deeply personal undertaking that reflects her experiences, compassion and desire to make a difference in the lives of others.
The actress reportedly named the facility after her parents, Joseph and Esther Olagookun, giving the project an emotional connection to the family values and appreciation of parental sacrifices that inspired its establishment.
Interestingly, her involvement in elderly care is not entirely new. After relocating to the United Kingdom in 2004, Sobowale worked as a caregiver in London, where she acquired professional qualifications in the care sector.
She reportedly obtained National Vocational Qualification certificates at Levels 2, 3 and 4, eventually rising to the position of team leader.
That experience appears to have provided her with valuable insight into the needs of older people and the importance of structured, compassionate care, knowledge she has now brought into an investment in her home country.
Makinde Commends Actress, Announces Additional Support
Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Makinde commended Sobowale for establishing a facility he described as a meaningful contribution to society and a reflection of the importance of caring for elderly people.
He urged Nigerians blessed with wealth, influence and privileged positions to deploy their resources towards improving lives rather than oppressing others.
The governor also announced that the access road leading to the facility, which is being rehabilitated by Lagelu Local Government, would be extended to the home’s frontage and equipped with solar-powered streetlights to improve accessibility and convenience.
He described the initiative as an extraordinary gesture inspired by the actress’s love for her parents and concern for the welfare of older citizens.
More Than a Nollywood Legacy
For an actress who has spent decades entertaining audiences with memorable performances and establishing herself as one of Nigeria’s most recognisable screen personalities, Joseph & Esther Homes represents a different kind of achievement.
Sobowale’s remarkable journey in the movie industry, particularly her celebrated performances in productions such as King of Boys, The Wedding Party and Super Story, has earned her admiration across generations.
Her decision to channel part of her experience and resources into elderly care demonstrates that a successful career can create opportunities to contribute meaningfully to society beyond professional accomplishments.
The project also reinforces the growing need for organised elderly care in Nigeria, particularly for older people who require assistance, companionship and a supportive environment while retaining their dignity and sense of independence.
Interestingly, the inauguration also coincided with the unveiling of Sobowale’s book, Built From the Break, adding another dimension to an occasion celebrating her resilience, personal journey and accomplishments.
With Joseph & Esther Homes, the actress appears determined to build a legacy that will not be measured only by the films she has featured in or the characters she has portrayed, but also by the lives touched through her investment in humanity.
For Sobowale, whose contributions to Nollywood have spanned several decades, the new venture could well become one of her most enduring legacies: a place where older Nigerians can live with dignity, receive compassionate care and enjoy the reassurance that they are not forgotten.
