The Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA has recorded another significant breakthrough in its ongoing counter-terrorism operations, rescuing three kidnapped women and thwarting a planned terrorist attack during separate operations in Zamfara and Sokoto states.
The successful operations, carried out by troops of Sector 2 under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, also led to the recovery of a PKT machine gun, ammunition, motorcycles, military accoutrements and other operational items, underscoring the military’s sustained offensive against terrorist groups in the North West.
According to a statement signed by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the first operation took place on June 22, 2026, during a routine offensive patrol in Bagega, Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The troops successfully rescued three female kidnap victims who had reportedly been abandoned by their captors following intense military pressure. The victims had spent about three months in captivity before regaining their freedom.
They were identified as 28-year-old Zainab Muhammadu from Gara Zaima Village in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State, 20-year-old Hafsat Ibrahim and 17-year-old Halira Usman, both from Mashiga/Taka Lafiya Village in Zuru Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The military said the victims were immediately evacuated for comprehensive medical evaluation and appropriate care.
In another operation conducted on June 23, troops of the 8 Division Garrison under Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA acted on credible intelligence and laid an ambush at Kwanar Jollof in Jangeru Village, Shinkafi Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The troops intercepted terrorists who were reportedly on their way to launch attacks in the area. Upon sighting the advancing soldiers, the terrorists came under heavy fire, forcing them to abandon their mission and flee the scene.
Items recovered from the operation included one PKT machine gun, a cache of ammunition, two motorcycles, chains suspected to have been used to restrain kidnapped victims, and other operational materials.
Lieutenant Colonel Danja noted that the successful missions demonstrate the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations and the sustained offensive posture adopted by troops of Sector 2 in denying terrorists freedom of movement and disrupting their criminal activities.
He added that the rescue of the kidnapped victims and the recovery of weapons further reflect the vigilance, professionalism and unwavering commitment of the troops to protecting lives and securing communities across the North West.
