A respected Ibadan businesswoman and traditional title holder, Mrs. Osunbunmi Abike Adeleye, has threatened legal action against Mrs. Eluyemi Abimbola over an alleged defamatory TikTok video, demanding ₦500 million in damages and an immediate public retraction.
The legal threat was conveyed in a letter dated July 3, 2026, issued by Olamiju, Olamiju & Co. (Hallmark Chambers) on behalf of Mrs. Adeleye.
According to the solicitors, their client—described as a reputable businesswoman and the duly installed Yeye Alaragbo Oduduwa—was the subject of what they termed false, malicious and defamatory statements allegedly made by Mrs. Abimbola in a TikTok video published on or about July 1, 2026.
The law firm stated that the publication not only attacked Mrs. Adeleye’s character but also ridiculed her traditional office, questioned the legitimacy of the title conferred on her, and allegedly extended the mockery to Olori Ashley Afolasade Ogunwusi, wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja II).
The solicitors further maintained that the title held by their client was lawfully bestowed by the Ooni of Ife in accordance with Yoruba customs and traditions, insisting that the publication had exposed her to public ridicule, contempt and embarrassment while damaging her reputation, business interests and goodwill.
In the letter signed by Opeyemi Olamiju, Esq., the law firm alleged that the video had been widely circulated on social media, with the potential to discourage customers, business associates and members of the public from dealing with their client, thereby causing significant commercial and reputational harm.
The lawyers also accused Mrs. Abimbola of criminal defamation and cyberbullying, citing provisions of Nigeria’s Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, which they argued criminalises the intentional transmission of false or offensive messages through electronic communication networks.
As part of its pre-action demands, the law firm directed Mrs. Abimbola to immediately cease making further defamatory statements against Mrs. Adeleye, remove the allegedly offending TikTok video and similar publications from all social media platforms within 24 hours of receiving the letter, and publish a full, unconditional and unequivocal apology and retraction with the same prominence as the original publication.
The solicitors also demanded a written undertaking that no further defamatory statements would be made against their client and requested the payment of ₦500 million as compensation for the alleged damage to Mrs. Adeleye’s reputation, business and traditional office.
The letter warned that failure to comply with the demands within seven days would leave their client with no option but to commence legal proceedings without further notice.
According to the notice, the proposed suit would seek a declaration that the publication was false and defamatory, an order compelling the permanent removal of the alleged defamatory content, a perpetual injunction restraining further publications, aggravated and exemplary damages, a public apology acceptable to the claimant, and the costs of the legal action.
As of the time of filing this report, Mrs. Eluyemi Abimbola had not publicly responded to the allegations or the legal demands contained in the letter.
