Nigeria’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to Austria and the International Organisations in Vienna, Chief (Dr.) Mrs. Florence Fatima Ajimobi, has marked a defining moment in her diplomatic journey with an emotional tribute to her late husband, former Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, and their late daughter, Abisola.
In a deeply personal reflection shared as she attained the milestone, Ambassador Ajimobi recalled the two people she wished could have been physically present to witness the occasion — her husband of 40 years and her first daughter, Abisola, whom she described as her “first fruit” and a precious source of joy.
Her reflections came against the backdrop of her presentation of her Letters of Credence as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Republic of Austria, a responsibility that now places her at the centre of Nigeria’s diplomatic engagement with Austria and international organisations headquartered in Vienna.
For Ajimobi, however, the diplomatic milestone carries a deeply personal meaning. Remembering her late husband, she reflected on four decades of companionship, describing him as her best friend and the man who stood by her through different seasons of life, encouraged her and celebrated her journey.
She also remembered Abisola, her first daughter, whose 44 years of life, according to the ambassador, brought immeasurable joy, warmth and love into her world.
“Though you are no longer physically here to witness this milestone, you remain forever woven into the fabric of my life and my story,” Ajimobi wrote, stressing that she carries something of both of them into every new chapter of her life.
Her emergence on the diplomatic stage represents another phase in a public journey that began long before her appointment to represent Nigeria abroad.
Born in Benin City and raised in Ibadan, Ajimobi studied Secretarial Studies and Management at The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
She subsequently built experience in the private sector, working with Femi Johnson & Co., Insight Communications and RT Briscoe before venturing into entrepreneurship and establishing her own business.
She later obtained a doctorate in Public Administration from Ajayi Crowther University.
Her years as the First Lady of Oyo State between 2011 and 2019 brought her humanitarian and social-development activities into wider public focus.
During that period, she championed initiatives directed at women, children, healthcare, education and vulnerable members of society.
Among the initiatives associated with her public service was the Ajumose Food Basket programme, which provided food support to people across Oyo State.
She also founded the Access to Basic Medical Care (ABC) Foundation, through which medical services and health interventions were provided to members of the public.
In 2016, the foundation reported that about 35,000 men, women and children had benefited from its free medical services.
Her commitment to education and human-capital development also featured prominently, including the “Educate a Rural Child” initiative aimed at supporting indigent children with educational materials.
During her tenure, she was also founded the Oyo State Officials’ Wives Association, an initiative which created a platform for women and women-related issues.
Her humanitarian efforts earned recognition from different organisations, including City People Magazine, which honoured her with its Service-to-Humanity Award in 2018 for her contributions to women, children and society through various initiatives.
Ajimobi’s transition from the role of First Lady into diplomacy has now taken her public-service journey beyond Nigeria’s shores.
She arrived in Vienna in July 2026 to assume duty as Nigeria’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to Austria and the international organisations in Vienna.
Her diplomatic assignment includes representing Nigeria in Austria while serving as Permanent Representative to international organisations based in Vienna, bringing her into Nigeria’s multilateral engagement with institutions operating from the Austrian capital.
As she celebrates this new chapter, Ajimobi has chosen to frame the moment not only as a diplomatic achievement but also as a testimony of faith, family and endurance.
She expressed gratitude to God for the years she shared with her late husband and daughter, saying their memories remain permanently woven into her life.
For the former Oyo First Lady, the presentation of her credentials is therefore more than a ceremonial diplomatic assignment.
It is a moment in which a long journey through family, business, humanitarian service, public life and now international diplomacy converges with memories of two loved ones she wishes could have stood beside her.
“Forever loved. Forever remembered. Forever cherished,” she wrote in remembrance of Abiola and Abisola, as she begins another chapter of service to Nigeria on the international stage.
