Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Elders Council in Oyo State have expressed deep sadness over the death of Professor Isiaka Olayinka Kolawole, a respected party chieftain and former Deputy Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
Professor Kolawole reportedly died on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at a hospital in Abuja following a brief illness.
He served as the Director-General of the Oyo State APC Presidential and Governorship Campaign Council during the 2023 general elections, playing a significant role in the party’s campaign structure in the state.
Kolawole was also the Secretary of the Oyo APC Elders Council from its establishment in 2021 until his death, a position in which he was described as a committed and dependable administrator.
In a condolence statement issued on behalf of the council, its Chairman, Chief Iyiola Oladokun, said Kolawole’s death represented a major loss to the council, the APC and the wider political community in Oyo State.
Oladokun, who served as Deputy Governor of Oyo State during the administration of Alhaji Lam Adesina, recalled his professional relationship with Kolawole when the deceased served as the state’s Liaison Officer in Abuja.
He described the late professor as a man of principle, discipline and integrity, noting that his contributions to the council had been significant since its formation.
“Prof. Isiaka Kolawole was one of the most straightforward, principled, and disciplined politicians I have ever known. He was very active and a diligent secretary of our council,” Oladokun said.
According to the council chairman, Kolawole’s public life was defined by service and meaningful contributions, particularly in education, public administration and politics.
“He lived a life of impact and service, and his departure is very painful, but we are consoled by the knowledge that he left an indelible mark when we talk about education, public administration, and politics,” he added.
Oladokun further said Kolawole’s absence would be deeply felt by members of the elders council and those who had encountered him in the course of his public service.
“He will be greatly missed because of his disposition as a member of the council and a great human being,” he stated.
The council prayed for divine mercy for the deceased, asking Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds and grant him eternal rest.
